Edinburgh Experiences

Overview

Welcome to Edinburgh – Scotland’s picturesque yet hilly capital. A diverse city that offers rich culture, historic sights and adventures in the great outdoors by the bucket load.

Its two distinct neighbourhoods, medieval Old Town and the Georgian New Town, are separated by the beautiful Princes Street Gardens public park and guarded by the magnificent Edinburgh Castle, perched high above them.

There’s something here for everyone – whatever you’re into. Explore Edinburgh’s medieval streets on a bike tour, discovering hidden gems with your local guide. Browse the local markets offering fresh produce, handcrafts and be sure not to miss the Christmas Markets.

For the more adventurous types, conquer Arthur’s Seat, the peak that looms over the city or head to Portobello Beach, loved by the locals and a great spot to watch the sunset. When it comes to locations for an activity holiday in Scotland, it doesn’t get much better than the capital.

    Best Time to Visit Edinburgh

    General

Edinburgh is famous for its Fringe Festival, and for good reason. The biggest arts festival in the world creates an incredible atmosphere in the city and runs for pretty much the whole of August. But if you’re not going to Edinburgh for the festival, we would recommend keeping your visit outside of August, thanks to incredibly high accommodation prices and low availability.

Otherwise, there is no real bad time to visit. Expect cold, wet weather from November through to March, but a wonderful atmosphere around Christmas and Hogmanay (New Year) time. For the best weather, visit in June, July, or September.

    • In many cases, less than 10% of the money spent on a holiday actually ends up in the pockets of the local community. Tourism leakage is a serious problem, and it means many people are not able to reap the benefits of the tourism happening in their own back yard. We work with small, local suppliers and ensure that they receive a fair amount for every holiday we sell.

    • The climate is changing, and the travel industry is a key frontier in this battle. On the one hand, pollution from travel, erosion from over-tourism, and waste from careless travelling can make the problem much worse. But on the other hand, travel affords unique opportunities to help people connect with the natural environment in a close-up, personal way, and support locals in protecting their local environment. We are committed to offering experiences that match our sustainability criteria.

    • Travel can help build a better world, but it has to be done properly. We are not just finding experiences that are better for local communities and better for the planet. We are committed to helping everyone travel better. From the moment they book with us until the moment they arrive home, we actively help our travellers with resources and guidance. This helps them travel more mindfully, and ultimately, offers a deeper, more rewarding experience.
