Activity Holidays in Mauritius

Overview

A little sapphire gem in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is known for its pure white-sand beaches,  warm turquoise waters and as a playground for those who enjoy the more luxurious side of life.

Away from the large luxury resorts however, there’s a wonderful world of African and Indian inspired culture and delicious cuisine drifting from little shacks that make up the sleepy fishing villages, there is excellent hiking with amazing views, in the forests and mountains of the interior, and world-class snorkelling and diving around the islets and reefs.

There are also the charming little colonial touches, botanical gardens and plantation houses that tell of a fascinating history of the island. Today though, it’s a place to relax, unwind, and reward yourself by just getting a bit off the beaten track to soak up the best of the contemporary culture, cuisine and wonderful landscapes.

    Best Time to Visit Mauritius

    General

The high season in Mauritius is generally early in the year, in every sense. Accommodation price, temperature, humidity, snorkelling visibility, all of this is high in the months of December through until February.

We’d probably recommend visiting in the shoulder season, where temperatures are still extremely pleasant, there are fewer visitors, and the diving visibility is at its best. Of course, there’s always the slim chance of cyclones, but you’d be extremely unlucky to be caught in one.

    • In many cases, less than 10% of the money spent on a holiday actually ends up in the pockets of the local community. Tourism leakage is a serious problem, and it means many people are not able to reap the benefits of the tourism happening in their own back yard. We work with small, local suppliers and ensure that they receive a fair amount for every holiday we sell.

    • The climate is changing, and the travel industry is a key frontier in this battle. On the one hand, pollution from travel, erosion from over-tourism, and waste from careless travelling can make the problem much worse. But on the other hand, travel affords unique opportunities to help people connect with the natural environment in a close-up, personal way, and support locals in protecting their local environment. We are committed to offering experiences that match our sustainability criteria.

    • Travel can help build a better world, but it has to be done properly. We are not just finding experiences that are better for local communities and better for the planet. We are committed to helping everyone travel better. From the moment they book with us until the moment they arrive home, we actively help our travellers with resources and guidance. This helps them travel more mindfully, and ultimately, offers a deeper, more rewarding experience.
