Experiences in the Lake District

Overview

There’s a reason poets such as Wordsworth, Ruskin and Coleridge waxed lyrical about nature, and it’s lying in this corner of northwest England. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Lake District is a jewel in the crown of the British Isles, with dreamy landscapes the order of the day.

Sheer ridges lead up to rugged mountaintops and sloping hills that lead down to dense forests and glistening lakes. And of course, with all this natural beauty comes incredible outdoor adventures. Whether it’s hiking, kayaking, mountain biking or fell running, the Lake District is a playground for the adventurous.

At the end of a day in the mountains, there’s nothing better than coming back to a cosy local pub and settling down in a bright beer garden in the summer, or by a crackling fire in the winter, for some of the best beers and hearty food in the country.

Best Time to Visit Lake District

    General

Whilst the weather is clearly the warmest and driest in the summer, this is also the time that England’s most visited national park can seriously fill up with tourists.

Consider heading to the Lakes in the shoulder seasons, from April through to May or September and October, when the weather can still be great (if a little unpredictable).

In the winter, the weather can get pretty cold and wild, and the hills can become tougher to navigate, but if you’re prepared to brave it then a pint in a nice warm pub is the perfect reward.

    • In many cases, less than 10% of the money spent on a holiday actually ends up in the pockets of the local community. Tourism leakage is a serious problem, and it means many people are not able to reap the benefits of the tourism happening in their own back yard. We work with small, local suppliers and ensure that they receive a fair amount for every holiday we sell.

    • The climate is changing, and the travel industry is a key frontier in this battle. On the one hand, pollution from travel, erosion from over-tourism, and waste from careless travelling can make the problem much worse. But on the other hand, travel affords unique opportunities to help people connect with the natural environment in a close-up, personal way, and support locals in protecting their local environment. We are committed to offering experiences that match our sustainability criteria.

    • Travel can help build a better world, but it has to be done properly. We are not just finding experiences that are better for local communities and better for the planet. We are committed to helping everyone travel better. From the moment they book with us until the moment they arrive home, we actively help our travellers with resources and guidance. This helps them travel more mindfully, and ultimately, offers a deeper, more rewarding experience.
