What you'll do

Overview

Explore Hanoi from a unique perspective in a vintage, Vietnamese War-era Jeep, as your local guides show you the hidden gems that reveal the local, authentic side to this richly diverse and addictive capital.

Meeting in Hanoi, you’ll be taken straight to your accommodation for the next two nights, and given some time to relax and recharge before you start exploring Vietnam’s manic, beautiful capital city.

This is the perfect adventure for those looking to really get to know Hanoi. You can guarantee you’ll see the highlights, the stunning Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the 1000-year old temples of Tran Quoc, the romantically beautiful West Lake, the incredible food, whilst also getting to see a side to the city most tourists will miss.

You’ll get to see real-life in Hanoi, digging past the tip of the iceberg that are the main tourist attractions to the offbeat experiences in the black markets, in the mazes of alleyways and backstreets that have so much character, and with the people that actually live there.

Explore the outskirts of the city, and understand what really makes life tick in Hanoi. Thanks to your local guide, you can be sure that you’ll come away from this tour having found the best spots to eat, the most fascinating sights, and with a real understanding for a city that is alive with energy.

Soak Up the Hanoi Atmosphere

Upon arrival, you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel for the next two nights, where you can relax and refresh after whatever journey you may have had.

Then, we would recommend that you spend your first evening exploring the bustling atmosphere of Hanoi 36 Streets area, also known as the Old Quarter.

Drink in the incredible mix of architecture, the tempting aromas rising from steam-filled kitchens and the sound of constant activity, and take a seat on a street corner with a cold beer to watch the world go by.

Accommodation

Hotel L’Heritage (or something similar)

Located on an ancient street in Hanoi’s historic Old Quarter, the newly opened Hanoi L’Heritage Hotel offers a panoramic view of ancient streets with luxurious and stylish design in 55 rooms widely ranging from Superior, Deluxe to Suite.

Exploring the City

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll be greeted by your guide and after a quick safety briefing, head off into Hanoi on the back of your war-era jeep.

For the first part of the day, you’ll be getting properly under the skin of Hanoi. Your guide will take you to the lesser-known parts of the city, showing you slices of life in the back-alleys.

Take in the activity on the tiny lanes, in the local schools, homes, and markets that appear to spring out of nowhere. Venture to the black market, and experience how the locals live, how they work, and see where they go to socialise.

We feel the majority of a city’s attractions lie here, off the beaten track and away from the super touristy spots, where you can go and really experience life at a grassroots level.

That being said, you can’t come to Hanoi and not see the 1000-year-old temples of Tran Quoc, or the colossal Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. So, along with the Temple of Literature, the iconic train tracks that run through the city and the atmospheric French Quarter, we’ll stop by the ‘must-sees’ in the second part of your day.

Then, you’ll head to see the poetic beauty of West Lake, the hustling & bustling Old Quarter, the romantic lakes of Hoan Kiem, Hanoi Opera House & the famous Long Bien bridge.

At the West Lake, we’ll take you further off the beaten track, to explore the peaceful, alluring villages that sit on the outskirts of the city. This is a great opportunity to take in the contrasts of rural and city life, and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere in the evening air.

Of course, en route, you’ll be stopping at all kinds of local restaurants, eateries and street food stalls, sampling dishes that have been passed down through generations, secret recipes, and local specialities.
