What you'll do

2 day safari starting with a traditional lunch, an afternoon safari, overnight accommodation where you can choose from luxury or classic tents and an early morning safari before breakfast.

Yala national park is Sri Lanka’s most famous national park  and one of the best places to view wild animals, (specifically Leopards) on the whole of the sub-continent. Wildlife is truly plentiful at Yala, presenting visitors with the opportunity to view some of the most amazing wildlife that this enchanting part of the words has to offer. You can find wild leopards to tusked elephant colonies, birds, crocodiles, sloth bears, wild boar, buffalo and even the humble butterfly which fill the park from the end of the North-east Monsoon (February). If this weren’t enough, in 2 days in Yala it is quite possible to spot and identify over a 100 species of birds and even have a close encounter with a crocodile; from the safety of your jeep!

At Yala, all tours are hosted by a knowledgeable and trained guide taking you on 2 x 3-hour safari trips, including accommodation, that is both luxurious and lovely. This is a wildlife sanctuary with surprises around every corner and a treat not to be missed.

Your tour guide will pick you up from the meeting point in Yala and drive you to the campsite in time for a traditional Sri Lankan lunch of meat and vegetable curry. You will be greeted with a welcome drink, cold towels and a campsite briefing before lunch.

After lunch, you’ll depart for the afternoon (returning around 6.30 p.m.). All jeeps  have  trained guides who are full of fun facts and stories of the animals, legends and safari myths; as well as a cooler box with soft drinks and snacks!

Driving into the National Park your guides are trained to read the signs and track the animals as they forage for food through their natural habitat. Guides will actively search for animals by tracking their different behaviors like the shouting of monkeys and calling of birds. After a fun filled few hours, you will arrive back at camp for refreshments and the opportunity to freshen up before meeting around the campfire for a pre-dinner cocktail.  Depending on the weather, dinner will be served at 8.30, either around the campfire or in the communal dining room.

You may want to crash out early this evening as the following morning it is a REALLY early start. The best time to see wildlife is when they are getting up for their breakfast and that’s usually at first light. So we usually wake at around 4.45 a.m. while it’s still dark, and set off around 5.15 a.m. ready to be at the National Parks in time for opening at 6.00a.m.

Its usually a little chilly in the morning (so bring a jumper) but the guides are well versed in spotting animals by their different behaviors and routines in the mornings so be prepared and have your cameras at the ready for a photographic opportunity of a lifetime. Your guide will choose your specific route for the tour based on the animals activity and natural foraging route from the previous evening. After 3 to 3 1/2 hour safari trip we will return basecamp in time for a full breakfast.

Most guests choose to have a well-deserved rest before lunch but others take the opportunity to venture out on one of our guided walks to see more local flora and fauna around the campsite.

Come and join us for an adventure you won’t forget for a very long time!
