What you'll do

If you love a good gin and tonic, a cold craft beer or a glass of fabulous wine, our Wine, Beer & Gin Extravaganza is an experience not to be missed. This tour is entirely located in the Stellenbosch/Paarl region and will give you the chance to taste some seriously delicious, locally-crafted drinks.

The tour starts off with a French owned winery that is as passionate about their wine as their countrymen. French they may be, but biltong is a South African speciality and their wine pairs best with delicacies of the meat variety. Enjoy five of their wines with five differently spiced biltong samples and taste for yourself how amazingly well they pair together.

Next up, we’ll move onto a drink of a hoppier variety. The namesake brewery of the biggest wineland town is the second stop, and you’ll be treated to a tasting of their six fantastic brews along with a tour of their state of the art brewery. Craft beer is a huge deal in the Mother City, and we’ll be sampling some of the best from a sensational example of the brewing talent that SA boasts. Bottles will also be available for purchase at the taproom if you want to take home a memento, or six.

By the third of the four stops, you’ll be craving something equally as delicious, but probably not of the liquid variety. The venue for lunch is one of the most popular spots in Paarl – a wine farm that offers a myriad of experiences on one, picturesque estate. The menu features dishes of enormous variety, with classics like German Eisbein, authentic Italian pizza and almost everything in between.

The day finishes off with a gin and grappa tasting at the distillery, with one of the brands that is widely regarded as being responsible for the recent ‘gin boom’. Spirit tastings are often enjoyed neat, and then with a ration of gin to tonic water at 1:1 as to really enjoy the complex flavours.

Kiff Kombi Tours was started by a couple of Australian travellers who have roots in many countries around the world. The company’s owner, Drew Campbell, was born in South Africa but moved to Australia with his family at a young age. He held a deep connection with the ‘motherland’ and always dreamt of returning to live permanently. Coming back to visit family and friends many years later, he fell in love all over again and swore that he’d be back.

Upon arrival, this couple travelled extensively around their new city. As tourists themselves, it became clear that Cape Town was the best city in the world but it was missing something. Before settling in they embarked on an African adventure and thanks to many long bus journeys and a lot of time to ponder, the Kiff Kombi Tours idea was born.

“It’s usually South Africans moving to Australia, however for Sophie and I, we are bucking the trend and have made the move to the Rainbow Nation. People often ask why Cape Town, and the answer is always, well have a look at this place.”
