Any visitor to Cape Town will not be able to avoid the magical influence of the Lion’s Head. Part of the Table Mountain National Park, Lion’s Head guards the western perimeter of City Bowl in which Cap Town nestles. Towering over South Africa’s Mother City like a proud lion, Lion’s Head affords some of the most amazing and spectacular views of the city. For this simple reason, our Lion’s Head Caves Adventure is one of our most popular excursions. If there is ever a hike to be done in one’s life, this is it.
On this relatively easy to moderate hike, we will start on the dirt track off Signal Hill road. Winding our way up the mountain we will be greeted first with spectacular views over Camps Bay, the Twelve Apostles mountain range and the magnificent Atlantic seaboard of the Cape Peninsula down the coast towards Llandudno and Hout Bay.
Winding our way further up the mountain, we will be hiking the quieter trails from where we will explore a few secret nooks and crannies en route. We will eventually meet up with the main contour path where we will begin the final assault on the summit.
There there are several more challenging sections on the ascent from here but nothing that can be described as difficult. In most places that require a little more ability, there are sturdy chains attached to the rocky face of the mountain which really does make it pretty straightforward to climb.
The adventure will guarantee 360-degree views of Cape Town, Sea Point, Table Bay and harbour, Robbin Island, Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean.
