What you'll do

Explore Edinburgh's most beautiful sights and discover the city's most spectacular views on this private walking tour with a local guide, who will help bring the city to life as you wander the cobbled streets and winding staircases.

Starting under the Castle in the historic Grassmarket, the Old Town and Calton Hill tour will show you some of Edinburgh’s most famous sites including: St Giles Cathedral, John Knox House and the Canongate Tolbooth, plus a few atmospheric ‘closes’ thrown in for good measure.

Great for history lovers, you’ll see a huge range of architecture, explore some less well-known bits of Edinburgh and enjoy beautiful panoramic views over the city.

Your guide will take you beyond Edinburgh’s popular Instagram image and typical tourist-tales to uncover the history of the city itself – from its tiny, medieval beginnings to the vibrant, cultural capital it is today.

Location

Your tour begins at the famous Grassmarket, in the shadow of the dramatic Edinburgh Castle. From there, you’ll explore some of Edinburgh’s most iconic sights, before finishing up your tour on Calton Hill. As this is a private tour, the start time of your experience can be agreed in the booking process.

At the end of your experience, your guide will be happy to make recommendations on where to go, and what to do, next.

FAQs

The length of the walk is around 3-4km, taken at an easy pace over 3 hours. The terrain is a mixture of pavements, cobblestones, steps and steep slopes.
