What you'll do

Overview

Discover Lisbon like a local, on this unique 4-day city break that immerses you in true, authentic Portuguese culture so that even after your short stay here, you'll really know what it's like to be a real Alfacinha. Taste authentic Portuguese food and wine, experience an evening in a traditional Fado house, and discover corners of the city untouched by locals.

Your Portuguese city break begins with a private transfer from the airport to your hotel. After you’ve had some time to refresh after your journey, you have some free time to get your bearings and explore the city yourself.

In your first evening, you’ll be taken to an authentic Fado house, where you’ll enjoy a dinner of traditional Portuguese cuisine and get to drink in a Fado performance – a truly authentic Lisbon experience. In fact, Fado music has been declared to UNESCO World Heritage status.

The next day your guide will take you on foot to spots the locals go to every day, visiting six local food businesses where you’ll get to try the specialties the locals eat, as well as meet some of the people who make Lisbon such a great city to live in and visit. Of course, it goes without saying that this tour takes place outside of the crowded and touristy areas, giving you a taste of local Lisbon.

To top off your time in Portugal, your final day will include a wine tasting session of some of the best Portuguese wines at a winery situated just outside the city.

Arrival Day

Transfer from the airport to the hotel.

Free day for city sightseeing and city strolling. We recommend going to the Belem neighbourhood for a taste of the famous custard pie (Pastéis de Belém). In the evening, we will transfer you to a traditional restaurant where, you will experience the world of Fado with all five senses (UNESCO World Heritage).

Join a small group for dinner & Fado night in a cozy Fado house. Note to visitors that traditionally once the Fado singing takes place the lights go dim to create an intimate environment, …silence reigns! As the saying goes “Silêncio que se canta o Fado”.

Transfer back to the hotel if you want to rest, or if you still have a little energy energy, stroll back to the hotel and enjoy some of Lisbon’s nightlife on the way.

Your meeting point for the day is in the downtown area. We recommend taking the famous TRAM 28 to downtown to meet with your guide.

The guided tour starts in the afternoon. A city walking tour of food & culture with a small group where your guide takes you off the beaten track to get a unique glimpse into the fascinating history of ancient Lisbon. The walk will pass through two unique neighbourhoods: Mouraria and Old Downtown.

Along the way, you will experience the authentic, local vibe and stop to taste what the locals enjoy daily, with 6 stops to appreciate iconic samples of Portuguese food & beverages, all whilst learning about their culture and origins.

Travel in time, from the historical Lisbon of the 12th century up to the current day. During your offbeat stroll, you will learn why the Mouraria is such a unique place. Not only is it the birthplace of Fado music, but it is also one of the most multicultural neighbourhoods in Lisbon.

Location

Your city break in Lisbon takes place for the most part in the centre of the city, other than the wine tour which is situated just beyond the city limits.

Your hotel, whilst still being within easy reach of every part of Lisbon you could wish to see, is just out of the main tourist area and therefore off the beaten track.

You will enjoy transfers to and from the airport to your accommodation.

FAQs

What should I wear?

Lisbon is built on 7-hills and the sidewalks are made of wonderfully decorated cobble stone mosaics so we recommend to bring sturdy and comfortable shoes, preferably with no high heels.
