What you'll do

Join Marti and explore Northern Ireland by train, on an eco-tour that goes on the iconic coastal route from Belfast to Derry (Londonderry) and back again, stopping at local hidden gems along the way accompanied by history, stories and myths surrounding legendary Londonderry.

Starting from Belfast Great Victoria Street railway station, you’ll set out on an eco-tour that gets you off the beaten track to see the sights most tourists miss.

Vast sandy beaches, soaring cliffs, expansive ocean views – there’s a good reason that travel writer Michael Palin described this train journey as “one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world” and there are plenty of opportunities to hop off and discover some of the local highlights along the way, soaking up the green rolling hills of the landscape, and learning the history and legends surrounding it. We will even visit a magical Game of Thrones filming location, a great one to tick off for any fans!

Feel the sand between your toes on a long walk along an amazing wide sandy beach, far from the crowds and where it feels like you’ve really got away from it all, and then explore Northern Ireland’s second city.

You’ll be guided on a tour off the well trodden paths to discover the artistic and cultural hub of Derry (Londonderry) where history is all around you. The city walls were built over 400 years ago, traditional music spills out onto the streets from cosy pubs and people still celebrate ancient festivals. Yet this is also a vibrant modern city with a cutting-edge food scene, and an exciting cultural life. With its romantic riverside and the elegant Peace Bridge, it’s a wonderful place to explore and gain an insight into the real Northern Ireland, its people, heritage and culture. There will be time for lunch at one of the many local food stops, before our wonderful return train journey along the Causeway Coastal Route back to Belfast.

I was born with an i and not a y. On an island known at one time as land of Saints and Scholars.  One of 14 kids on the edge of the city of Belfast that also gave birth to the legendary HMS Titanic; the place where the iconic Delorian car was manufactured. Let me take you on an alternative walking tour of the place where I grew up, we’ll discover some more of its hidden gems and learn about its rise from humble beginnings to become an industrial giant. And as we go I'll paint a picture of its past, present and future, on a voyage of how it was and how it will be now the dust has finally settled; a place full of people just happy to be.
