What you'll do

Overview

Spend a week in hidden paradise and take your yoga to the next level with this traditional Moroccan Berber style hotel. Marrakech old town is only 20 minutes away, allowing you to enjoy everything it has to offer with your very own getaway for peace and relaxation.

Only a 20-minute drive into the heart of the old city of Marrakech and the souks, spend a day exploring and shopping here or relax at our authentically designed and furnished Berber retreat hotel.

There are plenty of other activities to do if you wish to be more active and adventurous; take a day trip to the stunning blue and white city of Essouira – where Jimi Hendrix wrote the song purple haze, or take a day trip to the Atlas Mountains and visit Berber villages or experience the desert.

Whatever it is you decide to do, there are 3 hours of yoga a day in the outdoor yoga Shala to re-energise and revitalise throughout the week.

Enjoy three meals a day and fabulous massage and other treatments in the spa area, with Hammam and hot tub. Float back to your room or relax by the pool or in one of the many courtyards. It is your holiday so be as active or relaxed as you like.

Accommodation:

A spacious hotel with two yoga spaces, two pools, plenty of outdoor lounging space and Moroccan courtyards, with bougainvillaea, romantically spilling over from private balconies, you can spend the day here unwinding from your busy day to day life, surrounded by views of the Atlas mountains.

The main area of our yoga hotel was built in 1840. Classic for Marrakech, the outside it appears unassuming but be shocked when you walk into a peaceful and stylish space with large heated outdoor pool and relaxation area with views of Marrakech and the Atlas mountains beyond. With lawns, corridors and courtyards shrouded by banana palms, citrus and olive trees and the scents and colours of orange blossom and roses assail the senses. You may even meet the odd tortoise!

The bedrooms are authentically Moroccan in design. They can be twin/double or single rooms and have good quality linen and hand woven Moroccan covers and cushions with a lot of space and large bathrooms. They each have the traditional seating area and many of the bedrooms have fireplaces and private terraces.

The suites are larger and have larger bathrooms, larger seating areas and private balcony or outdoor space

Yoga:

Morning session: wake up early to see the sunrise over the Atlas Mountains in the distance in our outdoor yoga shala. The practice will begin as a gentle awakening, building up to more dynamic poses – slowly building so that over the 6 days of yoga asana you find your body opening up to new depths in poses you’d never imagined; that you can settle in meditation quicker than before, that silence is something to be cherished. Feel energised and refreshed and ready for your day in the sun.

Evening session: Arrive at our fully equipped yoga shala for sunset yoga. Settle into a more restorative practice, to begin with, and once the deep rest has been satisfied with yoga Nidra and restorative poses, find more playful partner yoga being welcomed.

Food:

There are three meals included in the price of this holiday and it is catered for by their own local Moroccan chefs.

For breakfast enjoy fresh Moroccan coffee or tea or herbal teas and a delicious buffet spread of fruit, pancakes, Moroccan almond nut and honey butter, eggs, toast, different pastries and cakes and yoghurts.

For lunch, it is again a fabulous buffet o the terrace with stunning views of vegetarian and vegan dishes from baked aubergine, omelette, green salads, beetroot salads, soup of the day, different breads, fresh pizza.

For dinner, you can choose prior to joining us if you would like to have the meat or vegetarian option for the week. You will enjoy a 3-course evening meal.

It is possible to cater for dairy, gluten and other intolerance free diets – please inform us prior to departure.

Location

The luxurious accommodation is based 24km outside of Marrakech in a small Berber village. It’s narrow alleyways and flat-roofed village houses made from packed mud and water giving them an earthy colour and warm glow. Enjoy the sights of Marrakech without the limited space often found in a Riad.

FAQs

What is a hammam?

A Hammam is a steam room, similar to a Turkish bath, where Moroccans will go once a week to cleanse themselves.

I haven't done much yoga before, can I still come?

We have designed our weekends and weeks for people who love yoga, whether they are beginners or have been practising for years. All our teachers are very experienced and are more than capable of adapting the classes to all levels. Our ethos is about being open & friendly, and we set up our business to spread the incredible word of yoga to people who perhaps wouldn’t have gone on a yoga retreat before. So don’t be shy, there is no time like the present to start your journey with yoga.

Do I have to attend all of the yoga sessions?

Of course not, we understand we all want different things. Our two-hour sessions normally also include meditation or mindfulness, so it’s worth giving it a go.
