What you'll do

Overview

Experience the very best of Kenya over 11 days on an off the beaten track holiday that combines adventure activities, safari and time to relax on the beach, so that you can reflect on what has been an incredible journey through Africa.

From the moment you land in Nairobi, you will be making the absolute most of every minute you have in Kenya. So much so that, should you land in the morning, after spending time to refresh in your Nairobi hotel you will head straight to a giraffe sanctuary where you can get up close and personal with these beautiful animals.

Once you’ve had a night in Nairobi to get over your jet lag and get a good sleep in, you’ll make your way northwards towards Mount Kenya. Before you reach the national park, you’ll arrive in the Sagana region, where your active adventure are to take place.

Begin this section of your experience mountain biking on the magical trails that crisscross rugged hillsides, before heading out on a hike to the pinnacle of Kiambichu Hill, which offers panoramic views over the surrounding wilderness.

Settle in for a wild camp here under the stars, before you head down the hill to the start of your rafting adventure the next morning. This next experience is probably one of the highlights of your holiday, as you intrepidly navigate the white waters of the Tana River, before finishing up back at the camp.

This same day you’ll be transferred to your accommodation for the safari section of your trip. Sped your time in a luxurious tented camp in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, and spend a couple of days hunting for elephant, lion, wildebeest and more, as well as learning about the conservancy’s importance in protecting the rare white rhino.

Finally, you’ll make your way to the coast for a chance to unwind after your full-on itinerary. Near the town of Watamu on the coastline of the Indian Ocean, drink in magical white-sand beaches, incredible marine wildlife, and spend time relaxing as you reflect on your journey through Africa.

During your time here, you also have the opportunity to head out on a traditional Kenya vessel to search for dolphin, as well as a trip to a local village where you can experience first-hand what an authentic, traditional lifestyle in this corner of paradise look like.

Arrival Day

Land in Nairobi and meet your driver, who will transfer you directly to your accommodation in Nairobi so that you have a chance to relax, refresh, and get ready for your Kenyan adventure.

Transfer to the Coast

Enjoy a last morning game drive, before you wave goodbye to Ol Pejeta. You then drive back to Nairobi in time for your evening flight or train to the coast.

The train from Nairobi to Mombasa, where you will be picked up and taken to your accommodation, takes around 4h 30m, and is our recommended form of transport as it is far more environmentally friendly, and gives you an opportunity to see more of the country as you travel from city to coast. The cost of the train is around $30 pp, with a further $95 payable on arrival at Mombasa for the transfer to your hotel (per vehicle).

Flying takes around 1 hour into Watamu Airport and costs around $120 pp, and your transfer at the other end costs around $45 per vehicle.

Arrive at your accommodation and relax, refresh and reflect on your journey so far, as you drink in views of the gleaming India Ocean and prepare for the coastal section of your Kenyan adventure.

Accommodation

Temple Point, Watamu

Your accommodation for the remainder of your time in Kenya is a beautiful resort situated right on the coast, beside golden sand beaches and the warm Indian Ocean.

With a spa, pool and restaurant that overhangs a creek on hammocks, it’s a unique place to unwind after a whirlwind first part of your week. There are also opportunities to go diving, kite surfing or canoeing right from the hotel.

Experience the East Coast

Now is your chance to enjoy 5 nights of relaxation and cultural activities on Kenya’s coast, but if you want some more excitement, your resort offers a whole host of activities that you can enjoy at any time.

Included in the price are two incredible experiences offered our cultural and eco partners based at the coast. They believe in giving back to the community so your days will be filled with authentic cultural experiences, giving back to the community and taking an incredible experience home with you.

Trip 1: The dolphin dhow safari – cruise around the spectacular coast searching for dolphins. Dolphins can be hard to find, but don’t worry, if you don’t find them you might see turtles, whales, and enjoy plenty of snorkelling. After an incredible day on the boat, cruise back towards shore enjoying the incredible East African sunsets.

Trip 2: Visit a local village, a little hidden gem close to Watamu. This little village still operates in the traditional Giriama way of life. Here you will take boat rides in dug-out canoes, learn about the native Mangrove trees and learn to cook local food: our personal favourite is the coconut bean curry. Have you ever wanted to learn to climb a coconut tree, paddle a traditional canoe or visit a secret island? This village experience has it all.

The operation moved up to Sagana and the Tana river, where it has grown and grown. James Savage, Marks’s son, now runs the company and it has grown into Kenya’s top outdoor adventure provider, facilitating adventure trips to all ends of Kenya.
