What you'll do

Overview

During the 6 Day Adventurer Tour you will experience the best of Ireland along the southern stretches of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. You will be immersed in the best parts of the Rebel Kingdom and Banner counties of Cork, Kerry and Clare. Through the many hiking and biking experiences, you will travel off the beaten track and marvel at the diversity of landscapes from rolling hills to rugged mountains and spectacular coastlines.

The 6 Day Adventurer Tour begins in Cork City and travels along the Wild Atlantic Way through Cork, Kerry and Clare as far as the Burren National Park. During the Adventure Tour there are 3 days with a hiking activity and 3 days with a cycling activity.

Absorb and relish the most beautiful and some hidden parts of Ireland. By bike as you cycle in the stunning Beara Peninsula and the charming Killarney National Park. By foot as you hike along the mesmeric Cliffs of Moher.

Meander through diverse Irish landscapes in spectacular locations, including the renowned Ring of Kerry. Here Ireland’s highest mountain range stretch-out the length of the peninsula and they reach down to meet the rugged coastline with its countless inlets and beaches.

Travel back in time to ancient and Celtic Ireland. Imagine life in medieval Ireland as you walk through impressive castles, learn of Ireland’s legend heroes and warriors as you listen to Irish folklore tales and walk in the footsteps of druids as you enter enchanting stone circles.

Savour unparalleled Irish hospitality and warmth as you visit the best Irish towns and quaint fishing villages including Castletownbere, Killarney and Dingle. The Irish welcome and friendliness is sure to stay with you long after you leave.

Meet up & Kinsale

After meeting in Cork City, the adventure tour begins in Kinsale, the southern starting point of the Wild Atlantic Way. Kinsale is a beautiful harbour town with a rich maritime past. Explore Charles Fort and the Old Head of Kinsale. Then travel west along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Today’s activity is a cycle on the spectacular West Cork coastline. This is a beautiful cycle with excellent views along the route and it is a perfect opening to your Wild Atlantic Way Adventure.

Accommodation

You’ll be staying in 3* & 4* accommodation, carefully selected by your host James to ensure you have the best place to rest your head and recuperate after each days travel.

The accommodation is a mixture of hotels and B&Bs offering authentic Irish hospitality. The standard for all accommodation includes private en-suite bedrooms with TV, WiFi and breakfast daily.

On the first night, the tour will stay in West Cork Hotel.

Glengarriff Nature Reserve & Kenmare

On the morning of day two, you will enjoy a hike in the splendid Glengarriff Nature Reserve. Here you’ll hike through native oak and hazel woodlands and along gentle flowing streams. The hike takes 2hrs 45 mins. Then travel over the spectacular Caha Pass to the town of Kenmare.

In Kenmare, you’ll have lunch and visit an ancient stone circle. After lunch the tour travels west along the renowned Ring of Kerry.

Accommodation

The tour stays in a Waterville, a very pretty town on the Ring of Kerry and was once a favorite holidaying spot for Charlie Chaplin.

 

Valentia Island

On the third day the tour travels into the Iveragh Peninsula to explore the world famous Ring of Kerry with its dazzling beaches and rugged beauty. On this drive you will pass through historic towns and villages as well as some of the most awesome scenery anywhere to be seen.

The hike today is on the splendid Valentia Island. In the evening you can relax and unwind with a well-earned pint of Guinness.

Accommodation

Tonight, you’ll stay in Killarney Town. Killarney is wonderfully located on the edge of Killarney National Park and surrounded by the magical scenery of Killarney’s lakes, ancient woodlands and mountains.

Killarney National Park

During day four of this adventure tour you will get a real sense of the regions boundless energy and exquisite beauty. The day begins with a cycle through the wonderful Killarney National Park and Muckross Gardens. If you keep your eyes peeled during the cycle, you may spot some of the deer that roam the park or maybe even a white-tailed eagle, which have recently been reintroduced to Ireland.

In the afternoon the tour travel along a spectacular section of the Wild Atlantic Way heading further west to the jewel of Kerry, Dingle.

Accommodation

Accommodation tonight is in the small town of Dingle.

Slea Head & Dingle Peninsula

Travel along the Slea Head Drive on the Dingle Peninsula. This is a spectacular drive with views of rugged coastlines and some of Ireland’s remote islands.

Visit the early Christian site, Gallarus Oratory, then have lunch in Annascaul, the home of Ireland’s most famous explorer, Tom Crean.

Today’s activity is an afternoon hike. The hike begins in a mixed deciduous Irish woodland of oak, ash, and chestnut trees. The walk rises slowly, climbing out of the valley to be greeted with panoramic views of the mountains of Cork and Kerry.

Accommodation

Tonight, you’ll stay in Limerick.

Cliffs of Moher & Burren National Park

On the final day of the tour, there is still lots of adventure. Firstly, you will visit the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. You will arrive at the creatively built interpretative Centre via a hike along the top of the mesmerizing cliffs. It is a fantastic hike with views out over the Atlantic to the Aran Islands and is one of the lesser-used paths.

After lunch in Doolin, the tour will visit the Burren National Park. The Burren is a unique landscape made up of limestone rock pavement, calcareous grassland, and ash and hazel woodland. The tour explores the Burren, where you can spot some fossilized ancient sea life and rare alpine flowers.

On the evening of the final day, you will have the option to return to Dublin or Cork City.

Location

This tour will depart from Cork City and, over six days, you’ll travel west as far as Dingle in County Kerry.

Your meeting point will be at an arranged spot in Central Cork City at 8am, where you will meet James and the rest of the group. Load your bags in the minibus and off you go!

On day 6, your final day, you will have the option of returning to Dublin or Cork City in the evening. Accommodation is not included on this night.

- Those who love the outdoors and have a reasonable level of fitness
- A typical activity is a 3-hour hike on uneven ground or 3-hour cycle on country roads
- 16 years old and up

I'm a solo traveller - can I join?

- Absolutely, this tour is a small group tour which means you will be join an existing group of other solo travellers or friends/partners travelling together
- All solo travellers will have there own private room

What should I bring?

- Walking boots & comfortable trainers
- Comfortable and breathable outdoor clothing, including shorts, swimwear, trekking trousers, fleece and hat
- Gaiters & walking poles (optional but recommended)
- Cycling shorts
- Good quality waterproof jacket and trousers (preferably breathable)
- Day-pack/rucksack & water bottle
- Sunscreen and insect repellent
