What you'll do

Enjoy an exciting day of white water rafting, the most thrilling way to experience Iceland. Rafting down the glacial Hvita river, floating through beautiful canyons and afterwards take a sauna to relax and warm up.

Cruising down Hvítá River in an inflatable kayak is a magnificent way to experience Icelandic nature. You will navigate your boat yourself, whether you go alone or with a friend or partner. The inflatable kayaks are easy to maneuver, however  the rapids are unpredictable and there is the possibility that your kayak may flip. If this happens you will need to brave the  mighty glacial waters, our expert raft-guides and safety kayakers are always on hand to assist and of course wetsuits and safety vests are provided.

Hvítá River means the ‘White River’, the name without a doubt refers to the roaring white water you will encounter. We only recommend this trip to those seeking action and in good physical condition, perhaps with some previous white water experience.

The river originates from Langjökull glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland. We begin our journey a few kilometres downstream from Gullfoss Waterfall and travel down 7 kilometres, encountering a view you can only see floating in a boat. The first few kilometres offer us whitewater rapids and action and the latter serene beautiful canyons. We drift through Brúarhlöður, a striking canyon which was created by a volcanic eruption and subsequently carved out by the river.
After the tour we recommend the Drumbó sauna at our River Base, to warm up as well as getting a drink or some food at our Bar & Restaurant.

The River Ride is the ultimate whitewater action, one you are not likely to forget.  See you out on the rapids!

Location

The river base is located on the banks of the glacial river Hvítá beautifully located at the heart of the Golden Circle. So when making your way to some of the iconic must do sights in Iceland: Þingvellir, Gullfoss & Geysir it is ideal to make the most of your day and swing by for a rafting tour with us.

All of our rafting tours begin from the river base ( a.k.a our headquarters) and there we get geared up for rafting and river trips. The river base is 98 kilometres from Reykjavík, about 1.5 hours in a car.
