Overview

Explore Iceland on a summer adventure like no other, on this entirely unique, bespoke journey that takes you to ice caves, glaciers and jaw-dropping waterfalls, but also helps you get to know the Icelandic people and their culture, which can be just as addictive and compelling as the landscape.

From the moment you arrive at Keflavik airport and are met by your guide for the week, you can totally relax and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime in one of the worlds most spectacular countries on this stunning activity holiday in Icleand.

It is extraordinary from the beginning, and this unique experience will immerse you in its culture, history, dramatic landscapes, thundering waterfalls and breathtaking natural phenomena, with time to relax in your luxury hotel accommodation at the end of each awesome day.

Your 6-day adventure led by your local host will start with a wonderful off the beaten track exploration of the worlds northern most capital, Reykiavik, where you will immerse yourself in the culture and character, and a Blue Lagoon experience where you can soak in the warm, mineral rich waters on a truly authentic Icelandic experience.

This is followed by a true Icelandic discovery tour; you will take in fascinating hot springs and jaw dropping scenery, and walk in the steps of the Vikings at stunning cultural sights where continents collide.

You’ll visit mind-blowing waterfalls like Skogafoss and Gulfoss, where a spellbinding display of wild waters fall into a bottomless crevasse; walk up to dramatically erupting geysers, and see how the Icelandic people have harnessed the energy of the earth with smart engineering to build greenhouse farms,  then head out into the wilderness on a snowmobile safari across the whitewashed land of a glacier.

Discover incredible black-sand beaches that have acted as the set for Star Wars and Game of Thrones, and wander through stunning, multi-coloured ice caves to explore places other tourists don’t find.

Stumble across the Valley of Thor, explore isolated villages and sites of myths and legends, and return having experienced an adventure you will never forget.

Arrival and Relax at the Blue Lagoon

You will be met by your guide as soon as you land at Keflavik airport, where you’ll be picked up and driven to your hotel in Reykjavik, stopping en route at the beautiful Blue Lagoon.

Here, enjoy the comfort entrance and then soak in the mineral-rich, naturally-heated waters and soak up the surrounding rugged landscape.

Thoroughly relaxed and in holiday-mode, make your way to Reykjavik and settle into your accommodation, ready for the incredible adventure ahead of you.

Sand Hotel Reykjavik (4*)

Golden Circle, Snowmobiling and Friðheimar Farm

The Golden Circle includes some of the most compelling attractions in the country, and offers you the chance to walk in the steps of the Vikings at the incredible Þingvellir, the site of the world’s first parliament.

Characterised by a deep chasm between tectonic plates and views of distant, snow-capped mountains, it’s a truly fascinating stop off before you head to one of Iceland’s most awe-inspiring sights.

Gulfoss is one of the most powerful and imposing waterfalls in the world, falling 32m down a number of steps into a canyon with walls up to 70m tall, it’s a must-see on any trip to Iceland.

Standing on the viewing deck and feeling the spray from the glacial river plunging over a precipice is a chance to experience the true power of nature.

Finish the Golden Circle with a trip to Geysir, the infamous (no-longer erupting) hot spring, and it’s little brother Strokkur, that has erupts with a magical display every 10-15 minutes.

Drive on to meet your snowmobiling team and begin exploring the vast ice-fields and glacier of Langjökull, one of the last true wildernesses in Europe, exploring an entirely alien, but beautiful landscape.

Finish the day with a trip to Friðheimar Tomato Farm, where the ever-ingenious Icelanders have created a huge greenhouse farm using geothermal heat. Try some of the produce, and the wonderful tomato soup  then head back  to your hotel and perhaps relax in a hot tub at the end of a long day of adventures.

Accommodation

Hotel Grimsborgir (5* Hotel)

This luxury hotel was built in 2009, with new accommodation blocks added in 2013 and 2014. It has an ideal location for our adventure,  right in the heart of the Golden Circle, very close to some of Iceland’s amazing natural phenomena and breath taking scenery such as Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir National Park.

The South Coast and Glacier Hike

Our first stop is the majestic Skógafoss waterfall, one of the most iconic ones in the country. You might remember it from the popular Game of Thrones show, where it played a significant role. We will continue our tour with some excitement, the glacier hike on the Sólheimajökull glacier, which is connected to Mýrdalsjökull, the fourth biggest glacier in Iceland.

Your guide with provide you with safety instructions and check your equipment before you step out onto the ice! This activity is approximately 2.5 hours longs with 1.5 hours spent on the glacier.

Afterwards you will visit the world-famous Reynisfjara black sand beach. Before heading back to Reykjavik, you will also stop by the beautiful Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which is located right under the infamous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, famous for its eruptions in 2010 which halted many flights around Europe. If the weather is nice enough, you’ll be able to go behind the waterfall’s curtains and even see the somewhat hidden little cousin, Gljúfrabúi, which is a waterfall hiding in the mountainside.

A Highlands Adventure

Þórsmörk, otherwise known as the Valley of Thor, is a truly inspiring region of jagged mountain ridges, lush valleys and atmospheric birch forests.

On this final full day of adventure, you’ll embark on an incredible hike that takes in massive glacial valleys, mind-blowing volcanic landscapes, and places of absolute stillness and serentiy.

Epic volcanic craters from the aftermath of the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption, and an ancient valley said to have been created by the hammer blow of Thor himself are just some of the natural wonders you’ll enjoy as you experience true wilderness and raw nature.
