Combine learning the beautiful French language on this popular 1 week French and culture course; perfect for passionate Francophiles, you’ll be practising the language and discovering French culture and history as well as its gastronomy in gorgeous Lyon.

Whatever your level from elementary to advanced; learning French in Lyon is the best way to accelerate your language learning experience. Immerse yourself in the local French culture and progress rapidly practising your new found skills in your free time.

In the mornings, you’ll be taught to speak French by highly qualified native French speakers who have a passion for teaching and use proven language teaching techniques.

In the afternoons, you will take part in many cultural activities centred around the history of cuisine and culture in Lyon. Activities include guided tours of fascinating museums and areas of Lyon and one evening you will enjoy an intimate cooking demonstration chez Janine followed by a tasting of the delicious food. Immerse yourself in the delicious art, sites and  cuisine while practicing and perfecting your French language skills.

A typical day
– French language lessons start at 9am
– Please note that classes start at 9.45am on Monday
– Classes run daily Monday through to Friday each week
– You will have 3 group classes per day lasting 45 minutes each
– There will be a short coffee break between lessons
– Gastronomy activities take place at various time throughout the week in the afternoon or evening and you will be given a full timetable on arrival

What are some of the cultural aspects I’ll be exploring?

You’ll have several activities (1 or 2) per day of variable duration: guided walks in the historic districts of Lyon, wine and food tastings, museums, cruise on a bateau-mouche, cooking workshops, visit of the Halles Paul Bocuse, discovery of the painted walls ofLyon, and more!

The program varies according to the season and the cultural events happening in Lyon. All activities are in French.

– On Monday you will have a guided orientation tour of Lyon where your guide will point out and tell you about the history of the city’s bistrots, chocolatiers, patissiers and many more
– On Tuesday there is a tasting session at a local cooking school or producer (this depends on the season and the exact activity will be confirmed on arrival)
– On Wednesday you will join sommelier, Laurent, for a wine tasting where you will sample some delicious French wines
– On Thursday there is a guided tour of one of Lyon’s famous ‘quartiers’ so you can get to know the city from the eyes of a local
– The week finishes with a cooking demonstration held chez Janine who will show you how to prepare typical Lyonnais dishes followed by a tasting of the delicious food in good company
– Learn lots of new French vocabulary related to food and cooking
– All the extra activities will be in French so this is a perfect way to practise and development your French language skills

What can I do after the language lessons?
– Many people on language holidays travel solo so the language school organises a host of social and cultural activities each week to help you to get to know your fellow classmates and to integrate you into the French way of life, some activities are free and others have a small charge and may include:
– Guided tours of the historical town centre of Lyon and its museums and galleries
– Tastings of local products, such as, wine, cheese, chocolate and much more
– Excursions to the Alps to ski in the winter months
– Parties and picnics
– Afternoon trips on the Rhône
– Cinema visits
– Theatre workshops
– You will have plenty of free time to explore the local area and practice your new found language skills or just kick back and relax on this language learning holiday

Where can I stay?
You’re welcome to make your own arrangements so you can pick accommodation to suit your needs, however, optional accommodation can be booked in addition to your language course with a local host family. It's run by the director, Frédérique and her team of teachers, who are all highly qualified native French speakers with a passion for teaching. The school is also fully accredited.
