Overview

Enjoy this 7 night creative writing experience whilst staying in the beautiful Champagne House in the South of France. Experience the local culture and indulge in authentic French food and wine.

Come join us and find out how creative writing event can be life-changing, motivating, inspiring and enjoyable. Meeting lots of interesting like minded people, enjoying and exploring some amazing locations, cultural experiences, luxury accommodation and amazing cuisine.

The retreat offers a writing workshop every morning designed to get the words flowing. Through prompts, games and exercises, you’ll discover different ways into writing that will inspire and surprise you

Your tutor Claire Boot is an experienced writer who’s passionate about the joys of writing. Whether you’re chipping away at a work-in-progress or just curious to give writing a go, Claire will fuel your creativity with inspiration, encouragement and fun! Claire’s work includes plays, prose, poetry and creative writing resources for Sherman Theatre, Big Start Assemblies and Literature Wales. She is a member of the National Association of Writers in Education.

Arrival

Upon arrival at Toulouse airport, you will be picked up and driven to the Champagne House. You’ll be shown to your room and after settling in, you will have time to meet your tutor for the week and discuss the format of the week ahead and then free time to relax and unwind.

Your Creative Writing Retreat

Each day will have the same structure but there will be variations in where you go out, eat and have your workshops.

To start your day you will have a luxury continental breakfast in the kitchen or on the terrace, and discuss the plan for the day with Claire.

After breakfast you will enjoy learning the art of creative writing through practical writing workshops, followed by discussion.

Then you will have a break for lunch and go to a local restaurant/location (lunch including wine, maybe a picnic, depending on the afternoons activity).

During the afternoons we will visit some of the most admired villages in France, ancient historic Bastides, Chateaux, Armagnac distilleries, local fetes, festivals and much much more.

There will also be free time to write and explore the local area or simply relax and enjoy Champagne House.

Before the evening meal/snack, we’ll gather for an informal session of sharing and discussion to nourish your journey as a writer.

Departure

After a final breakfast at Champagne House, you will be transferred back to Toulouse airport or the train station,  for your onward journey home, taking some great memories and amazing creative writing skills back with you.

Now, it is a Champagne themed Chambres d’Hôtes, Boutique B&B for retreats/events. There will always be a glass of bubbly and a warm welcome when you arrive.

Location

Champagne House is located in the picturesque french town of Condom in Gascony. It is a character Boutique B&B offering luxury accommodation spread over four floors is packed with original features, and a plethora of photo opportunities. It has a central spectacular, stone cantilever staircase and a French/Moroccan courtyard, plunge pool and lots quiet places to relax in.

Step out of the property and you will immediately find a bakery, bars, the river Baise, fine dining restaurants, cinema, theatre, a local distillery and much more. Further along you will find the park and central walkway that runs through the town, a museum, shops, local exhibitions, restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. There is also a market that is open twice a week within walking distance for you explore and experience authentic French culture and food.

If you are arriving to Toulouse airport or to Agen or Auch train station you will be collected and transferred to the accommodation, please let us know at time of booking. If you are arriving by car there is parking at Champagne House.
