“Everything about Lapland is so real and so pure. The nature around you is astounding there isn’t anywhere else like it in the world.” These are the words of our local host, Markku, when asked what he loves most about his country, and we couldn’t have put it better ourselves!

Lapland is the ultimate natural destination, whether in the grip of a magical, snow-blanketed winter or in the midst of a softly lit, endless summer. Bask in the fiery tongues of the majestic northern lights, take part in heart-melting husky encounters, or go spotting the native reindeer. An adventure in Lapland is exhilarating, engrossing and has a real sense of magic about it. After all, it’s the home of two of the most famous natural phenomena, the aurora borealis, and the midnight sun!

Adventure is in the air in Lapland. Towering pine forests, dotted with idyllic, crystal blue lakes, stunning mountain scenery and dramatic fells offer some of the world’s best hiking, biking, kayaking and canoeing. And one of the very best things about this natural utopia, you feel genuinely off the beaten track, and in true wilderness. As Markku puts it, “It’s so amazing because when you’re out in nature here, you can travel 100km and not see another soul.”

    What our travellers are saying...

    We stayed in the Northern Lights village in Saarisselka which was a lovely place. The accommodation was great, the glass roof looked amazing, just a shame we didn't get to see the northern lights! The food in the hotel was great 90% of the time. I was disappointed paying 16 euros for chicken nuggets only for them to be served an hour later on the buffet. The excursions were good although we did end up in a heated sleigh only for it to be blowin

    We stayed for four days and three nights and had booked the "Searching for the Northern Lights" package, which I highly recommend. Everything was just perfect. The activities included in the package are really a must-do to be able to discover fabulous landscapes and hear the stories from the very friendly guides. The cabins are very comfy.     I stayed from 31 Jan - 3 Feb, 3 nights and took the 'Searching for the Northern Lights' 3 nights package and had travelled solo. Came with no expectations of seeing the lights and I was blown away to see them on my first night (from my cabin 29) and 2nd night (aurora hunt on heated sleigh).     We had an amazing time at this place. We had "Searching for the Northern Lights" package so breakfast and dinner included also 4 different activities. We enjoyed all the excursions and guides were excellent. We were also fortunate to see "The Lights" on 2 occasions, so that is ticked off the bucket list.

    April – May:

    As April rolls into May, the rivers and lakes crack and unfreeze, and Lapland is opened up to hikers, climbers, mountain bikers, you name it. Go bear spotting, hike the rugged countryside, or take a canoe out onto an idyllic, peaceful lake.

    The magic of the midnight sun, to many people, is just as compelling as the allure of the Northern Lights. Experiencing the endless days of a Lapland summer is a surreal, enchanting time, as you relax by a serenely quiet lake and soak in the rays of the perpetual sunlight.

    September – October:

    Autumn in Lapland is a time of year when the snow has still held off just enough so that you can still head out hiking or kayaking, but also provides a window when you can combine these experiences with nights dark enough to see the Northern Lights.

    November – March:

    If you’re after snow, snow, more snow and the Northern Lights, then these months are your best bet. You can absolutely guarantee perfect conditions for skiing, snowmobiling and any other snow-based activity, and your chances of seeing the Northern Lights are at their very best – you won’t get a better time or place to see them anywhere, at any other time, in the world.
