Surf the waves in style and capture the true beauty of Costa Rica through a lens on this 6-night photography and surfing course located near the beautiful Jacó beach in Costa Rica; learn these two skills at a fun and social school with like-minded travellers for a holiday with a difference.

The rich colours and beauty of the tropical paradise that is Costa Rica make a perfect setting for a photography course. Your talented local guide will take you to breathtaking spots so that you can take home unique photos to really be proud of.

Suitable for first time photographers to professionals looking to learn new techniques, this course can be tailored to your own personal level of experience. Your photography course is designed to give beginners a working knowledge of the elements of digital photography including lighting, composition, apertures, shutter speeds and much more. You’ll also learn the basics of photo editing using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, while the more advanced learn new techniques and the best way to apply these to your work.

Costa Rica is home to some of the best surfing in the world and the areas of Jaco Beach and Hermosa are widely regarded as having the most consistent surf in the country. Enjoy a wide variety of breaks and plenty of un-crowded waves to take your skills to the next level on a surf and photography holiday with a difference.

Taught by highly qualified instructors who are passionate about surfing, you’ll be glad you discovered this thrilling sport. Your instructors wait for the perfect surf conditions before beginning their surf lessons, so that you really get the most out of your time on the waves during your unique surfing holiday.

A Typical Day

Your classes will take place on Monday – Friday, and the exact times will be confirmed during your stay

Photography
– You will have 10 hours of photography classes per week fitting in around your surf classes

Surfing lessons
– Your surfing lessons fit around the tides and the best times to surf and are usually held at 4pm daily but this can change depending on the weather conditions
– Surfing classes last 2 hours per day depending on your fitness level and take place at the best surf points for the weather conditions
– All transportation to local surf spots is included

Accommodation

Where will I stay?
– During your course you’ll stay in the popular student residence in the school grounds
– Prices are based on arrivals on the Sunday before your course starts and end on the Saturday morning after your course has finished
– It’s located just a few minutes walk from the beach in a quiet neighbourhood close to the centre of Jacó
– Decorated in tropical hardwoods and bamboo, stained glass and mosaic floors, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Costa Rican way of life
– If you are travelling solo, you can either can share a room with 1 other guest (of the same sex) and between you will have a private bathroom or if you are a solo traveller, you can book a private room for an extra supplement and note that these rooms sell out fast during peak season (December-March and May-August)
– Rooms are safe and clean and have air conditioning, ceiling fans, hot water, fridges and all students share a basic kitchen and communal areas

Room options in the residence
Standard shared rooms
A great option for travellers on a budget. All shared rooms are double occupancy with twin single beds. Solo travellers will be paired with a roommate of the same sex.

Upgraded shared rooms
For an additional supplement, these rooms are located in the main building of the school which has a tropical treehouse feel. They have all the same features as the standard shared rooms but have one double bed and one single bed.

Deluxe private room
For an additional supplement, this option is great for couples or solo travellers looking to treat themselves! These rooms have a comfortable king size bed and all the features of a standard room plus a complimentary bath towel service.

Home stay accommodation
– What to experience local Costa Rican culture? Why not stay with a local family? This is great chance to immerse yourself in the culture, get to know the locals and even improve your Spanish
– Families are located 10-15 minute walking distance from the school

Brian heads up a team of tutors at this friendly school, which has been teaching 4 main fun activities since 1997. Located in its own private school residence in a quiet neighbourhood, it’s just a few minutes’ walk from the nearest beach.

The tutors are all fully qualified and are extremely passionate about their teaching. They’ll teach in a fun and informal style with the aim to inspire and pass on their passion and will encourage and give confidence to you through their teaching.

Your school and lovely accommodation is located just a few minutes walk from the beach in a quiet neighbourhood close to the centre of Jacó, on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast. Decorated in tropical hardwoods and bamboo, stained glass and mosaic floors, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Costa Rican way of life.

Nearest airport:
San Jose (SJO)

If your plane arrives after 4pm, we strongly suggest taking a taxi to Jaco. Alternatively, arrive into San Jose on the Saturday before the course, stay overnight and travel on to Jaco the next day. However, you won’t necessarily save money this way so please consider all the transport options available to you. Please see your booking voucher for details.

- There is NO single supplement for solo travellers who are happy to share a room with another solo traveller of the same sex

- There is so much to see and do around the area of Jaco Beach
- You can choose to take a field trip kayaking and snorkelling along the coast and a waterfall hike to the 'Three Pools'
- A variety of marine life can be seen around the reefs including tropical fish, lobster, corals, and much more
- Other optional excursions through the school include visits to the Rainforest or a Crocodile River tour
- You will have plenty of time to kick back on the surf beaches and relax or practice your new found skills
