Canoe Ride

We will pick you up in the morning from your hotel and take you to La Boquilla. Not many people have the opportunity to canoe through a forest of thick mangroves in an exotic country. These aquatic plants form natural tunnels visitors will be able to glide under in a canoe. Enjoy watching small crabs scurry up the branches and learn about La Boquilla’sunique ecosystem. Several bird, fish and mammal species can be spotted as well. Your guide will teach you how fishing and tourism helps the community sustain itself in addition to what steps are being taken to preserve the area.

Traditional Fishing

Casting the traditional nets fishermen have been using for decades is not easy, but you will have fun trying! Watch your fisherman friend toss the heavy net with ease then you will have the chance to mimic his technique by casting it yourself. You will then learn how to set crab traps using fish as bait. The fishermen are experts at their craft and it’s an excitingexperience to witness them at work then trying it yourself.

Lunch with Locals

Even if you didn’t get a lot of catches, the local fisherman will help you out and make sure you don’t go hungry. A personfrom the community will cook the fresh fish and crabs and make a traditional dish famous on Colombia’s Caribbeancoast. The dish will consist of coconut rice, fish, salad and fried plantains. While the food is cooking, you will get the chance to learn more about the locals and their interesting culture. Around 1:30 pm, we will drop you off at your hotel.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I was born and raised in Bogota when I was studying I actually didn;t didn’t study anything to do with tourism. My career began in engineering and I worked in this industry for many years, but I always maintained a passion for travel, discovery and exploring and did plenty in my spare time. Both in Colombia and across the rest of the world.

After a while, my husband got an offer to work in the UK and so we moved across the world and then came my idea to start a business… (which has always been a big ambition of mine)

What inspired you to work in travel?

As mentioned, I always had a passion for travel and always wanted to start my own business. It was about 7 years ago I attended a conference where the Colombian government outlined their plans to invest in tourism to make Colombia fulfil its potential as a tourism destination. So here the seeds were planted to start looking to offer experiences in Colombia. Another influence was that obviously being from Colombia myself and my husband have deep knowledge of all the local, authentic things to do. So whenever our friends were visiting, they would always come to us to ask what to do and where to go and we loved telling people, so this was the second indicator. So we started to look to offer these experiences.

What makes your experiences special?

We combine the highlights of Colombia, the things most people want to see, with off the beaten track, authentic experiences that you wouldn’t get on any normal tour. So people really get an insight into true local life as well as seeing any must-see, main sights.
