Bogotá. Up there as one of the first destinations many avid travellers have on their travel agendas. And you don’t need to be the next Christopher Colombus to discover just why that is. As the beating heart of Colombia, Bogotá has been compared to the likes of Berlin, San Francisco and Dubai for it’s economic, political and cultural developments. Basically it means means for the traveller Bogotá is a world class urban destination.

But it’s not all towering skyscrapers and rooftop bars, Bogotá boasts an eclectic mix of things to see and do. Dotted amongst the urban cool, you’ll find colonial buildings, municipal museums, authentic restaurants, as well as, age-old churches, plazas and houses.

The city is also nestled amongst the colossal Andes mountain range, so it makes experiencing Colombia’s natural wonderfull-ness a walk in the park. Just a stones throw from the city, you can find the tremendous Chingaza National Natural Park and according to our local ambassador Nidia, it’s pretty special: “Chingaza National Natural Park offers you the chance to see some rare, but exceptionally beautiful animals such as the spectacled bear, the Andean condor, the páramo tapir, and the puma, as well as the chance to explore ancient and sacred Muisca land and sites, including a few majestic lakes.”

If you’re not sold already, Bogota also offers the chance to immerse yourself in true local life in the form of Boyaca, which happens to be one of Nidia’s favourite areas of the countries, take it away Nidia: “Throughout Boyaca there are little local towns, each town has something different that you can learn about local life and the best part about them is, no one really knows about them, so it’s not uncommon to be the only ones there.”
