Explore and get under the skin of action-packed Phnom Penh, and properly understand its history, its culture and its people.
Your day begins when you meet your guide at around 8:30 am at your accommodation, where you’ll begin your unique tour of Phnom Penh, where you’ll discover its hidden gems, its highlights and its local secrets.
Start by heading to the Phsar Kandal morning market, and throw yourself headlong into the swirling mass of smells, sights and sounds. Try unique local delicacies and the most popular street-eats, as the smells of delicious food mingle and rise in the warm morning air.
You’ll then head to the elegant French Quarter, home to streets lined with fine colonial architecture. Some of these old, beautiful buildings have been lovingly and fantastically restored, whilst some are in a state of graceful disrepair, with beautiful peeling facades.
You’ll visit sights like Wat Phnom, the Buddhist temple from which the origin of the city springs, old post buildings, disused train stations, Cambodia’s largest market and more.
However, no tour of Phnom Penh is really complete without acknowledging the terrible acts of the Khmer Rouge regime, and for the second part of the tour, you go to pay your respects at a memorial for the victims of the brutal period.
Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum stands as a stark reminder, and a poignant memorial for those who lost their lives during the oppressive reign. It was once a high school, before it was converted into a detention and torture centre under the Khmer Rouge.
After a morning of discovery and adventure on the manic streets of Phnom Penh, it’s time to head back to your hotel and relax.
