What you'll do

If lush, damp and green hikes are what you like then Skeleton Gorge is for you.The gorge is always alive with the sounds of rushing water, bird calls, and frogs.

Skeleton Gorge Hike – One of the most famous hikes on Table Mountain

If hiking through a lush, damp, green mountain ravine is your sort of thing then our Skeleton Gorge Hike is the one for you.  This ascent of the eastern slopes of Table Mountain is certainly one of the most famous hikes in the Table Mountain National Park. If you decide to take on this adventure be warned it is by no means a walk in the park, you will need to be moderately fit to accomplish this ascent.

Start at Kirstenbosch Gardens

We’ll start off with a walk through the famous majestic Kirstenbosch Gardens to reach the start of our journey. This area of the Cape Peninsula receives the most rainfall and consequently, the terrain is a thick shaded indigenous forest-like landscape which is always alive with the sounds of rushing water, bird calls, and frogs.

Fresh forest air blows down the ravine like air conditioner near as you hike which is a welcome bonus especially in the heat of a Cape summers day. Passing ancient foliage, magnificent trees, and finally coming out at the end to be greeted by the soft white sand and the calm waters of one of Table Mountain’s five dams.

See the Dams

Our journey will continue with a tour of the dams and a short stop at the lonely museum.  We will return via another ravine to make the journey even more special.
