What you'll do

Overview

Combine snowmobiling with the highlights of Iceland's south coast from a unique, local perspective. Explore ice caves, glaciers, black sand beaches, geothermally heated lagoons and geysers with expert local guides and leave the country having not just visited Iceland, but experienced it.

Arrive into Keflavik Airport, and embark on the adventure around southern Iceland. You’ll be taken to your chosen accommodation in Reykjavik, the buzzing capital of the country. After settling in meet your guide down town for an introduction to Icelandic cuisine as you stroll around the capital visiting some amazing local eateries and getting an insight into this city that is bursting with character.

In the evening you will be setting off for a cruise to search for the Northern Lights around the Faxaflói bay, far from the lights of the city.

Drink in the inky dark wilderness and, if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the otherworldly Aurora Borealis flashing across the sky.

Spend time exploring the famous Golden Circle, visiting mighty geysers, including the world-renowned ‘Geysir’, and the jaw-dropping Gulfoss waterfall. A rush of water cascading into a mighty gorge, this is a serious sight to remember on your south Iceland adventure.

You’ll walk in the footsteps of the Vikings at Þingvellir National Park, and visit the lesser-known Secret Lagoon, a beautiful place where you can soak in geothermally warmed waters, surrounded by dramatic scenery.

Visit the Sky Lagoon, a wonderful outdoor lagoon overlooking the Atlantic ocean. A totally different experience from the Blue lagoon – the water here is clear, not Blue and the Lagoon though large feels more intimate, enclosed in the black volcanic rocks. There is a swim up bar so you can enjoy a holiday toast and a ritual room to experience the seven steps to relaxation – including an awe-inspiring glass-walled sauna overlooking the sea.

On top of this, snowmobile to some of Iceland’s most stunning corners, explore magical ice caves with expert guides, recognise film sets on black sand beaches, and fill your camera’s memory card with countless pictures of cascading waterfalls.

Arrival and Northern Lights

Upon arrival meet your driver and transfer to Reykjavik for check-in.

Pickup: starts 45 minutes before tour start, please be ready at your designated pick up point.

Search for northern lights on this thrilling winter cruise where you maximise your chances of sightings! Search for Aurora Borealis away from the city lights, on this thrilling winter cruise.

Watching the lights constantly change in intensity, colour and movement in the vast starry space with the gentle lull of the ocean beneath is a thrilling, unique experience.

Hunting the aurora by boat provides you with more comfort as there are heated inside areas, an onboard café and great 360° viewing
platform for panoramic views. Your expert aurora guides help you enjoy the lights and cruise to the fullest by giving you information about the auroras as well as answering any questions you may have.

They even take pictures on the tour which you can request by email when you get back home! You can borrow overalls to keep you warm, just remember to bring a hat and gloves.

Venture out into the dark blue yonder of Faxaflói bay in search for the mystical phenomenon that are the northern lights; leaving
behind the bright city lights of the northernmost capital in the world, Reykjavík.

As the northern lights are a natural phenomenon we cannot guarantee that you will see them, but you are with professional aurora
hunters with years of experience searching for the lights around Reykjavík.

If the lights fail to make an appearance you can try again another day. You are free to go as many times as needed (within two years) to catch the show – at no extra cost!

Ice Cave Adventure

Your day starts at 8:00am, when your driver collects you from central Reykjavik. Your small group will head south, as you wind our
way through the ever-changing scenery towards the breathtaking south coast.

Your first stop is Hvolsvöllur for some coffee and snacks for the day.
The next stop is the town of Vik, where you’ll meet up with your Ice Cave Guide and your adventure begins! Climb into a super jeep and take an exhilarating ride through the private back road of Vik to reach the glacier area.

In true style, this will be an offbeat experience that will show you the quieter, authentic side of Iceland, far away from the crowds
and the mainstream tours.

Your local guides spend more time than anyone else exploring this landscape and they know where all of the best ice caves hide! They’re also one of the very few companies who can offer ice cave tours all year round, thanks to their extensive local knowledge and our expert caving skills.

The first stop is at the front of Kötlujökull – the Katla outlet glacier. Kötlujökull is actually part of the famous Mýrdalsjökull glacier – the fourth largest glacier in Iceland. Your safety is paramount at all times on this tour, so you will pause here and your glacier guide will fit you up with some equipment (a helmet, headlamp, and crampons) and provide you with a full safety briefing.

From here, it’s a fun 10 to 15-minute glacier hike across the ice to explore your first ice cave! You’ll marvel at the magnificent colours and textures inside the ice cave, and the crazy shapes and crystal ice will leave you in awe.

Your guide will share the history of the Iceland ice cave and explain how it was formed. You’ll learn how the volcanic eruptions of the Katla volcano caused the ash and sand to combine with the ice, to form the incredible shades of black and blue that appear almost like ‘dragon glass’.

There will be plenty of ice cave photo opportunities, and plenty of time to ask questions and learn all you wish to know about these magnificent icy structures.

After some time in the main cave, you’ll take another short glacier walk as you hunt for secret waterfalls and hidden glacier canyons. You may have heard that visiting an ice cave is a “Once in a lifetime experience” – this couldn’t be truer.

Iceland’s ice caves are constantly shifting and changing with the seasons, so the caves that you will experience on your glacier tour will never exist in the same form again.

Your guides are always scouting the glacier ice for new and hidden caves, so they know exactly where to find the most spectacular (and the safest)
ice caves to show you on their tours.

Some of these caves are on private land that can only be accessed with your guide, so it is also possible that your tour will include a visit to a secret ice cave.

After your ice caving adventure, you’ll head back to the super jeep for your next destination: a private black sand beach.

You will already be very familiar with Iceland’s most famous black sand beach, Reynisfjara, and we definitely recommend that you explore this beach in your own time.

However, we prefer to take you off the beaten path on our tours. Therefore, you will visit a lesser-known black sand beach that you can explore and enjoy in privacy – far away from the tourist crowds!

Finally, your jeep then takes an exciting detour through the wild terrain as we drive through the actual film set from Star Wars Rogue One. You’ll see exactly where the opening scenes were shot as your guide shares all of the behind the scenes details.

Take in some more filming locations on your way home, as you visit the film sets of some other favourites, such as Transformers, Noah, and Oblivion. Along the way, you will also enjoy some other memorable sights from the comfort of the jeep, including the historical promontory of Hjörleifshöfði (named after one of the first Viking settlers in Iceland), the distinctive Reynisdrangar sea stacks, and of course, the beautiful local area around Vik.

From here, you’ll journey back to Reykjavik. Your first stop is the thundering Skógafoss, where you’ll marvel at the power of this
towering waterfall and learn all about the legend of the secret treasure that it hides.

Your final stop is Seljalandsfoss, a truly magnificent and picturesque waterfall, and one that you can even walk behind during the summer months.
