Experience Belfast like a local, visit the most important sites from the infamous Troubles, and really understand the conflict that has shaped the city so much.
Meet Marti at a prearranged meeting point, and set off on a tour to gain a more in-depth view of the history of Belfast and Northern Ireland. The tour will also include a fascinating, comprehensive overview of the period known as the Troubles.
As you wander the streets, you’ll discover how Belfast became an industrial giant off the back of its inventive nature. You’ll hear of and see many of the famous people and buildings that are so abundant in the city, immortalised both in its history and physically on the streets.
See sculptures and street art by internationally famous artists in the city centre, and get local recommendations of things to see and do while in Belfast.
There will be free time, approximately one and a half hours, for lunch, Marti will provide recommendations in the local area.
After lunch, you’ll meander into the west of the city up the famous Shankill and down the Falls Road, both renowned for their numerous examples of political murals and street art.
As you discover political murals, more modern street art, and a project called re-imaging murals, you’ll learn about the history and culture of Belfast and how it is presented through them, including how Northern Ireland is building on it’s Good Friday agreement.
You’ll pass through the Peace Gate, with its International Day of Peace mural created by both sides of the conflict, and you’ll see the now-famous Peace Wall that separates communities.
See the Bobby Sands Mural, and as you pass the International Wall, take in the many different aspects of life this controversial art portrays, as you descend back into the city centre.
