What you'll do

Enjoy your stay in this extraordinary and unique cottage, making for the most unusual and memorable stay in the lovely market town of Bridgnorth.

This quirky cottage is nestled in the buzzing market town of Bridgnorth in Shropshire. Once home to the famous artist, inventor and visionary, Antony Dracup, the cottage is an eclectic mix of art and industrial engineering, designed and developed over a 20 year period. The cottage has been modernised but retains many of the very quirky and unusual features installed by the artist.

As you step into the cottage, you may feel like Alice in Wonderland. With a beautiful two-toned ceiling rosette and decorated cupboards and doors created by Antony, teamed with some modern ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed accessories, the entrance to the cottage is a delightful escape from reality.

As you move to the rear of the ground floor, you will find the cottage style galley kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with a hob, oven, fridge and dishwasher, so if you don’t want to venture outside you can cook delicious meals in the comfort of this authentic cottage.

Just past the kitchen you will find the dining room, inspired by the world renowned Severn Valley Steam Railway, and Bridgnorth Station is just across the road! All the fittings here are handcrafted with reclaimed timber. A station clock, daylight coming through the new skylight, travel posters along with Antony’s architectural wall décor, this room will give you the feeling of being outside.

Through the dining room to what would appear to be the exit, is the most impressive part of the cottage, and most unexpected room in what is on first sight an ordinary house! The ‘knights cavern’ is a cave, which has been carved out of the hillside at the back of the house. Antony hand carved this cave, designing impressive arches and pillars to create a medieval atmosphere, which has been enhanced with chandeliers, antique church sconces and chairs fit for knights. Take a seat and soak in the ambience of the past!

Also on the ground floor, there is the famous ‘Boiler Room’ bathroom. This charming room has been renovated to house an impressive walk in shower, and the hand made industrial features -lights, pipes and working gauges, create a unique aesthetic in this quirky space.

As you go upstairs, you will see the Art Room. Featuring a 360 degree mural of Bridgnorth and its surrounding areas, created and hand painted by Antony Dracup, you will be entirely surprised with the elegance and vision shown throughout his artwork. A swivel chair has been installed here, to relax and admire this amazing landscape.

The master bedroom, also on the first floor, is known as the Hobbit’s Lair. This room was especially sound-proofed by Dracup and provides a tranquil space to unwind.  A hand crafted oak double bed along with all of the rest of the bedroom furniture has been inspired by a Hobbit’s house. A luxury hybrid mattress and hotel quality bedding have been introduced, to ensure the most restful night’s sleep.

This quirky accommodation is one of a kind, originally designed and lovingly created by of one of Shropshire’s most renowned artists,  and the new owners Karolina and Jason have maintained the original vision and inspiration when developing it into unique immersive holiday home for you to enjoy.

Due to the small spaces, doorways and steep stairs the cottage is not child or pet friendly, and may not be suitable for persons of reduced mobility.
